Awakening to Sonship: Walking in the Kingdom of Heaven Now

The Kingdom of Heaven is not a distant promise but a present reality, a divine truth waiting to be fully realized within us. As sons of God, we are awakening to this profound truth, embracing our identity in Christ, and manifesting the Kingdom of God in the here and now. In this article, we will explore what it means to awaken as sons of God, how this awareness transforms our lives, and how we can walk in the fullness of the Kingdom today.

The Awakening to Sonship

The awakening of the sons of God is a spiritual revelation. It begins when we recognize our true identity—not as mere mortals, subject to the limitations of the world—but as sons and daughters of the Most High God, co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16-17). This awakening is a shift in consciousness, a movement from living according to the flesh to living according to the Spirit.

When we are born again, we become new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). This new birth ushers us into the Kingdom of God, where our citizenship is not of this world but of heaven (Philippians 3:20). However, many believers remain unaware of the full scope of what it means to be a son of God. They may still live as though they are bound by the limitations of the flesh, unaware of the power and authority that has been granted to them in Christ.

Awakening to sonship is the process of realizing the divine inheritance we have been given. It is the recognition that we are no longer slaves to sin, fear, or the systems of the world, but are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live victoriously, to reign in life, and to manifest the Kingdom of God on earth (Romans 5:17).

The Kingdom of God Within

Jesus made a profound statement in Luke 17:21: "The Kingdom of God is within you." This truth reveals that the Kingdom is not a physical location or a future destination. It is a spiritual realm that exists within each believer. As sons of God, we carry the Kingdom of God wherever we go. Our role is to manifest this Kingdom, allowing its reality to influence every aspect of our lives and the world around us.

The Kingdom of God operates on principles that are contrary to the world’s systems. In the world, power is often associated with control, fear, and dominance. But in the Kingdom of God, power is manifested through love, humility, and service (Matthew 20:25-28). As sons of God, we are called to embody these principles, living in a way that reflects the heart and nature of our Father.

The Kingdom within us is a realm of peace, joy, and righteousness in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). It is a state of being where we are in perfect alignment with God’s will, where His purposes flow through us effortlessly. To walk in the Kingdom of God is to live in this divine flow, continually yielding to the leading of the Holy Spirit and allowing His presence to permeate our thoughts, words, and actions.

Walking in Authority and Power

As sons of God, we have been given authority in the spiritual realm. Jesus declared, "Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy" (Luke 10:19). This authority is not reserved for some distant future; it is available to us now. It is the authority to overcome every obstacle, to defeat every lie of the enemy, and to bring the reality of heaven to earth.

In Romans 8:19, Paul writes, "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed." The world is groaning for the sons of God to awaken to their true identity, to step into the authority they have been given, and to bring transformation to the earth. This authority is not just for spiritual warfare, but for advancing the Kingdom of God in every sphere of influence—whether in our families, workplaces, communities, or nations.

To walk in this authority, we must first believe that we have it. Many believers struggle to operate in the power of the Kingdom because they do not fully understand their position in Christ. They may feel unworthy or inadequate, forgetting that their identity as sons of God is not based on their performance but on the finished work of Jesus on the cross. When we embrace our identity as sons of God, we are empowered to live as Jesus did—moving in compassion, healing the sick, casting out demons, and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom (Matthew 10:7-8).

The Transformation of the Mind

Awakening to sonship involves a transformation of the mind. Romans 12:2 exhorts us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." The process of renewing our minds is essential to walking in the fullness of the Kingdom. As we renew our minds with the truth of God's Word, we begin to see ourselves as God sees us—righteous, holy, and empowered by His Spirit.

This transformation of the mind allows us to break free from the limitations of the carnal mind, which is often driven by fear, doubt, and unbelief. The carnal mind cannot comprehend the things of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14), but as we renew our minds, we align ourselves with the mind of Christ, which is filled with faith, love, and divine wisdom.

When our minds are renewed, we begin to see the world differently. We no longer view situations from a natural perspective, but from a Kingdom perspective. We recognize that we are not victims of circumstance, but co-creators with God, empowered to bring His will to pass on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).

Manifesting the Kingdom in the Present

Awakening to our sonship calls us to manifest the Kingdom of God in the present moment. This is not a passive process but an active engagement with the world around us. As sons of God, we are called to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13-14). We are called to bring the love of God, the wisdom of God, and the power of God into every situation we encounter.

Manifesting the Kingdom involves walking in the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). These fruits are the evidence of a life that is fully yielded to the Holy Spirit and in alignment with the Kingdom of God. When we walk in the Spirit, we naturally manifest the reality of the Kingdom in our daily lives.

In addition to the fruits of the Spirit, we are called to operate in the gifts of the Spirit—prophecy, healing, miracles, and discernment (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). These gifts are the tools that God has given us to advance His Kingdom on earth. They are a demonstration of His love and power, pointing people to the reality of His presence and His Kingdom.

Conclusion

The awakening of the sons of God is a divine invitation to step into the fullness of our identity in Christ. As we awaken to this truth, we realize that the Kingdom of Heaven is not a future destination, but a present reality within us. We are called to manifest this Kingdom in every area of our lives, walking in the authority, power, and love that God has bestowed upon us.

Let us, as sons of God, rise up and take our place in the Kingdom. Let us renew our minds, walk in the Spirit, and bring the reality of heaven to earth. The world is waiting for the sons of God to be revealed. Now is the time.
